Dancer in the Dark
Selma is a myopic Czechoslovak immigrant fan of musical comedies who went to the USA in order to operate her son who inherited from her bad sight. Her trouble of vision caused to her too many problems and she was forced to commit a murder and to be arrested.
Full of hope and dreams, she keeps smiling, singing and dancing in spite of her blindness and the problems she faces, sacrificing everything to help her son and to make his life better than the hers.
Björk was excellent with her childish face and voice. Innocent and spontaneous as she always is, she did her play perfectly either in casting and singing, which lead to a wonderful musical drama.
My rate: 9/10
Some quotes:
Selma: You like the movies, don’t you?
Bill Houston: I love the movies. I just love the musicals.
Selma: But isn’t it annoying when they do the last song in the films?
Bill Houston: Why?
Selma: Because you just know when it goes really big… and the camera goes like out of the roof… and you just know it’s going to end. I hate that. I would leave just after the next to last song… and the film would just go on forever.
