Internet White Screen of Death
We all know about the Windows’ Blue Screen of Death (See below).
And here’s the Internet White Screen of Death!!!
It’s strange, I’m using Firefox on Ubuntu; I have no French version of any program; however, this page often appears. I asked some friends from Spain, Kazakhstan, Venezuela, Poland, Canada, … whether they have the similar result, but they say that the sites can be opened normally.
Let’s talk seriously, the sites that contain that ridiculous page are those that have been removed; sometimes they may be right, but other times it seems stupid: I’m working with a friend on a myspace-like portal, so we need to see other similar sites; all sites that contain the word “model”, “celebrity”, etc. are not accessible. I am not looking for porn or whatever (if I need, I may download from some repositories that cannot be found by anybody), but I need that for work.
Yet again, Geocities is blocked, although there are several useful Open Source programs hosted on it; that’s why I beg some friends from the other part of the world to download and send me the program, they generally accept in spite of the huge size.
Recently I found a method, I got an SSH login at a distant server and I use the Wget command to dowload everything; once downloaded, I retrieve it locally using scp. That works damn fine!

Well, if you have a SSH account you can do better man … depending on your rights on the host.
