WordPress Today Events

I have released a 0.1 version of a pseudo WordPress plugin which displays events that occured in the same day / month along the history.
Pseudo, becuase it’s doesn’t have plugins features; I can even say it’s independent from WordPress. It consists of 2 MySQL tables: the main (wp_todayevents) and the backup one (wp_todayevents_archive) and 2 files: one to be ran by a cron job and the other to be displayed on the sidebar.
Each day, the scripts downloads events from Wikipedia, parses and inserts them into MySQL database, and moves old events to the backup table; hack on the code to find out more.
For a demo, look at the side bar of the main page or on the bottom.
The script can be downloaded, modified, distributed, … without warranty. Read the GPL file.
I wrote the script using only Vim.
Click here to download the script.

By the way, I will (finally) take a small rest during these days, so I won’t connect.
Happy Independance Day to all Tunisians and Glory to those who sacrificed their lives for our being free!
