Fairouz canta tango
Every Fairouz fan knows the song “Give me the flute“, whose the lyrics belong to Gibran. But who does know where the music come from?
Tango lovers do, it’s La Cumparsita — Tango’s Most Famous Song.
The cafe ‘La Giralda’ in Montevideo, Uruguay, occupies a special place in Tango history. It was there in the year 1917 that a young Gerardo Matos Rodríguez gave (anonymously) the music score of a tango he had written to the orchestra of Roberto Firpo to play for the first time.
I would like to share the track (sung by Carlos Gardel) with musicphiles but I think I’m not allowed for those patents restriction. Contact me if you wish to get the OGG version.
The Cumparsita’s part similar to Fairouz’s song goes like the following
Los amigos ya no vienen
ni siquiera a visitarme,
nadie quiere consolarme
en mi aflicción…
Desde el día que te fuiste
siento angustias en mi pecho,
deci, percanta, que has hecho
de mi pobre corazón?
Must be listened!

I just listened to this fantastic Cumparsita by Fairuz : brilliant, absolutely brilliant ! by the way, I’d like to suggest another great cover of this tune, this time by the italian singer Milva (if I remember well she performed it with Astor Piazzolla…)
