First contact with Eastern European movies
As it’s difficult to find cultural non-commercial movies in Tunisia, the European movies days is an occasion to find out more about movies in Eastern Europe: For 1 dinar, you may watch all the day’s high quality movies!
“Tato”, from Poland is a story of a divorced man who is obliged to let his daughter to his mother-in-law, as his wife got mad, and decided to “kidnap” the child, and to be a perfect father. A drama that contains many humor scenes, the 7-year old is very smart and prodigy, will live adventures with her dad, often funny, sometimes tragic.
“6:3″ is a Hungarian movie, a soccer fun who was born the same day of the “century match” England-Hungary in Wembley, 1953, magically returned to this day (as adult) and could predict all the goals scenarios (match ended 3-6). I would judge the movie as “interesting”, “original”, nothing more. The music, Hungarian folklore, is excellent too. The movie mainly highlight the oppression in Communist Hungary, the fear of secret police, and people used to live in terror and to denounce each other; when intellectual people asked him whether there would be a Revolution, he told about the dramatic events of 1956, and added: “Prepare yourselves to live 40 other years in the shit”. I noticed a mistake however, a writer was afraid of the secret police because he “did not cry at Stalin’s death”, yet, the scene took place in January 1953, whereas Stalin died in March 1953.
Anyway, I hope that similar days will occur, so that I can know more about other culture through the 7th art.
