June has just started…
It’s just the first week of June, and events are strangely succeeding.
The victory of Alan García in the Presidential Election of Peru. Alan García promised improvements of economy, less poverty and a so on, he is from left after all; however, the first thing he did was attacking his neighbors and his rival; besides, García is known for his corruption during the 80’s, so nobody wonders if he steals again his country’s fund, or if he allows multinational companys to exploit Peru’s wealth, making the poorest poorer. Nevertheless, he was elected because he is seen as the lesser of two evils; in fact, his opponent Ollanta Humala, military, is accused of torture during the dictatorship; after that he led an uprising against Fujimori and got pardoned by the Congress later.
A Peruvian friend told me: “We had to choose either a corrupted or a criminal, I voted none.”
The “triumph” of the islamist militia who has controlled Mogadishu, Somalia, without a real support of the local population, who are starving and dying because of the conflicts, they even “fear for a future with Islamists at the hellm who want to introduce Sharia law..”. The militia is considered as extremist by the United Nations, and is still controlling the city by guns, the fight has left some 350 people since last February.
Another scandal of the US Army is the Haditha’s one, a typical genocide! The soldier (who don’t act without an order)massacred the small city’s inhabitants murdering them and smoking their corpses, children and pregnant women were among victims.
It’s very cruel and inhuman, but what makes me more shocked is the absence of the “defenders of the homeland”, those who take as hostages the innocent people working in humanitarian organization and those who are bombing Iraqis. What were they doing during the genocide? Probably looking for more heads to cut, or more crowd to explode. Resisting against US troupes is not really lucrative!
