Mandela talks about Ubuntu
Yesterday I received the Ubuntu CD’s I requested one month ago. Well, I won’t talk about technical stuff, just 2 new things:
There’re no longer2 CD’s in one pack. If you want to install, first run the Live CD, and then, click on the icon. I haven’t tested it yet, so I can’t tell whether it’s stable.
The distro comes with some media files in the Desktop: Gimp image sources, ogg music file, ubuntu documentation, and mainly a video track showing Mandela talking about the word Ubuntu, its philosophy, community collaboration, …
Here’s what he told, I found the text in a forum:
Interviewer:
Many people regard you as a personification of Ubuntu. What
do you describe Ubuntu to be?
Mr Mandela:
In the old days when we were young, a traveller through a
country would stop at a village, and he didn’t have to ask
for food or for water. Once he stops the people give him
food; entertain him. That is one aspect of Ubuntu … but
it has various aspects.
Scroll up screen cut into video footage:
Respect
Helpfulness
Sharing
Community
Caring
Trust
Unselfishness
One word can mean so much. This is the spirit of Ubuntu.
Mr Mandela:
Ubuntu does not mean that people should not
address themselves. The question therefore is, are you
going to do so in order to enable the community around you,
and enable it to improve? These are the important things in
life. And if one can do that, you have done something very
important which will be appreciated.

heyas all.
my 40 gig drive is going to good use now. I have installed UBUNTU and have ordered KUBUNTU.
I dont know how to install the driver for my ati radeon 9600xt.
Actually i dont know if i am meant to be downloading and installing XFREE86 or the XORG version of the driver. I am downloading them both but i dont know how to do anything in Linux really.
I dont know where I am meant to set up my modem or set up a net account. (no INETWIZ.EXE)
So yeah, can someone help me out with getting my ATI driver installed?
and does anyone know of a good long PDF file i can read and wrap my brain around.
I’m still a Windows user, but I want to use Linux as much as possible.
Thanks.
