Sea, Sun, Jazz and Fun: The Craziest Tunisian Bloggers meetup, ever!
Last Saturday we organized a little trip to Tabarka. We started by a lunch, then a swim in a rocky beach where we had to make an escalation to access to the sea; ex-blonde got revolted (again) against Gattuso’s idea; while most of people chose to swim, Di5M4L, Sangoura, ex-blonde and me preferred to stay in a nice café face to a cool show made by amateurs (who play guitar and sing well, but wrong lyrics) and to hunt pictures; later, the rest of the group joined us and we got to the festival.
The first show was attractive, “Sunshine” performed by Judy Blair (piano and sing) and Abdul Selim (flute and saxophone); she had an intense voice singing in Ray Charles’ style; Abdul was excellent in interpreting voodoo music.
Next, came (I still can’t believe it) the great Ahmad Jamal! Improvising and playing both piano and organ; the one who worked the most was Mohamed, the beater, who performed amazing solos that made Otherz and Di5M4L impressed. Strangely, the festival (that was full of people) opened the doors for free, which made it overcrowded; we had to bear the complaints of some stupid people who just came to see an “interesting-old-American-Black-pianist-who-has-an-Arabic-name”. A funny thing was, after the end of the concert, the musicians greeted the public, then Ahmad Jamal said “Merci“, and, unexpectedly, added: “Once again!” and started a second concert, more “calm” but not less great; we wondered how such a 76-year old artist could play for 3 hours without being tired; which was good to make the uninterested people leave.
After the show and the dinner, we walked around the Needles, and, while we were planning to sleep outside, Gattuso miraculously was informed that there was an apartment in a residence for us! We got there and we finally could take a rest. Kassus and Sangoura fell asleep immediately, I shared some Swedish beer with Otherz and we had a talk till the morning, Gattuso, Di5M4L, ex-blonde, Otherz and me… It was funny to see Gattuso and ex-blonde completely tired at 7, sleeping in the beach; Di5M4L could not walk, sit, lie or even stand; after the breakfast we went back to the residence to have a rest for less than two hours…
The “next” day (Sunday) we went to Tabarka’s fortress that was weirdly closed, then, Kassus’ idea, had a lunch in a pretty small bar on the beach listening to nice Cuban music; it was already the afternoon and time to go back to Tunis.
Thanks people for the good trip, for the ideas and the fun, for the fights and the mood, thanks for everything and I hope we can make such a similar event soon!
