¡Mafalda te adoro!
I finally could download a huge Mafalda comic strip collection (is it illegal? No copyright was held anyway) that I had fun reading and re-reading.
Mafalda is a 6-year-old prodigious girl who is always worried about Humanity and Peace.
Mafalda was “born” in the 60’s by the Argentine cartoonist Quino who used the character to express his political and social thoughts; no wonder that Quino was the most read Argentinian.
Mafalda was often drawn with her friends and parents, she hates soup, loves the Beattles and takes everything politically; in addition to the excellent drawing and original ideas, the Argentinian accent made it more pleasant.
Since then, Quino still drew Mafalda a few times, mostly to promote human rights. For example, in 1976 he made a poster for the UNICEF illustrating the Convention on the Rights of the Child. (Wikipedia)
Below are some strips with my translation. If you want more, just request it ![]()

Father: I explain: Millibars are a mean of pressure
Father: According to the atmosphere, we say there’s a pressure of a number of milibars….
Mafalda: Excuse-me dad … I asked you about millibars, not militaries
Officer: All the cops are good
Mafalda: I start to understand how does the goodness work.
Mafalda: Sure, because I’m stupid
Father: Not because you are stupid, the point is that it’s not a problem for children
Mafalda: Really?
Mafalda: And if you explain me it without the pornographic parts?
Father: Straightforward and clearly, so I will answer Mafalda’s questions
Mafalda: Dad, can you explain to me why does humanity work so bad?
Mafalda: Did he fall asleep?
Mafalda: Congratulations miss, you have an excellent mother
Mafalda: And now, please, teach us things really important
Mafalda: Choose one, mom
Mafalda: Either you stop cooking soup, or I stop writing hipocrisies.
Mafalda (reading): And in the obscurity, thinking he got Le Petit Poucet and his brothers, the Ogre killed his daughters.
Mafalda: I wonder if it’s good; I thought that for any age, it was better a kiss than a crime.
Mother: A recipee
Mafalada: Something interesting?
Mother: Soup with fish
Mafalada: Damn that Freedom of Press!
Mafalda: Ah, the Monument of the International Situation?
Mafalda: Your teacher, how is your teacher?
Susanita: We missed that this stupid moved to the patronal sector.
Father (while Mafalda was entering): I think Mafalda will like it, they are good actors and they say that the show is very funny
Father: Mafalda, guess where we are going to take you?
Mafalda: I have already heard: to the Congress.
Susanita: According to rules, is there any possibility that allows to move more than 1 piece at once?
Felipe: Only when casteling.
Susanita: The regulation should envisage other cases.
Miguelito: Let’s see
Miguelito: Could we find the one of Esso?
Mafalda: Illiterate!

Hi!
I used to have the whole collection but I lent it and never got it back!
Do you have that comic where she says “mama amasa la masa y sala la masa” (she speaks in cursive) And then says “the good thing about going to school is that one can speak with literary sense.
There is another one that says that she thanks people that write children’s reading books instead of writing real stuff.
If you have them, Id love to have them!!
