Cowardness
I still remember it, August 11, 1999. There was an eclipse, not total in Tunisia, certainly not the first, but the most mediatic!
The cause is simple: a certain Nostradamus predicted it would be the Apocalypse day, and many Tunisians believed him! Besides, the “security” tips on the T.V, radio, newspapers, … made them afraid: “Don’t look at the sun, wear special glasses, don’t do, do …”. Confused, afriad, amazed, most of people preferred to stay at home, covered their windows and doors with curtains, … Tunis was a dead place, nobody walks, no car, no one in the streets. It was one of those rare times where I find myself alone in the middle of the day!
Later, it was declared that Wednesday August 11, 1999 was not a day off, and that all the employees who did not come were not paid. That’s it, scaring people, then, to make oneself innocent, blaming them.
It was only that day that I realized how coward were many people…
