House of Sand and Fog
Jennifer Connelly is for me the greatest dramatic artist; she could perfectly express desperation, depression and sadness. This has been proven in Requiem for a Dream, Beautiful Mind, and House of Sand and Fog.
Because of wrongly attributed taxes, Kathy was forced to leave her father’s house; an Iranian refugee family bought it; both sides need the home and did not want to abandon it. A sherif who supported Kathy abused of his power to hunt the family, but made things worse, leading to destroy them, his own family and himself.
If you liked Requiem for a Dream, you will like House of Sand and Fog, not suitable for sensitive persons.

Kathy: I grew up in this house. It’s the house that my father left to me and my brother when he died. The county evicted me from this house by mistake and your husband bought it and now, he won’t sell it back for less than four times what he paid. Now, I don’t want to argue with him. You know, I really don’t. It’s just that if this goes to court, it could take…
Nadi: [interrupting] They want to deport us?
Kathy: I don’t know.
Nadi: You must see… they will kill us. They will shoot my childen.
PS: I don’t know if it’s a goof or it was intended. The family escaped the Revolution (1979) when Esmail used to be a child; however, in the movie, he is still teenager whereas he was supposed to be more than 24 in 2003 …
