Google does not lack of sense of humor!

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Before logging to my gmail account, I surprisingly read that Gmail created a new feature, called Gmail Paper.
According to Google team, you can select all the documents you want to print including pictures, and Gmail will print them in high quality and deliver them in a pack to your home for free, regardless of […]

Accoona, a non convincing search engine

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

I have seen an accoona ad on Euronews, with the slogan “Reinventing Internet search”.
I have submitted my blog there 2 weeks ago, the search engine has been crawling and spidering the whole blog, increasing the bandwidth usage, but my blog still does not appear on the search page!
I still prefer Google, although nobody knows […]

Google dot com dot tn

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Google bought the dot com dot tn domain, and a new address is now available:
http://www.google.com.tn
Not too early, but it’s a good step.

Google Bombing: The Gulf You Are Looking For Does Not Exist!

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Another interesting Google request due to Google bombing!
Type in the search field the following query:

arabian gulf

Click if you wish on “I’m feeling lucky”; you will be redirected to a page that contains a fake IE 404 Error
http://arabian-gulf.info/
Have fun!

Updated Permalink structure

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

Looking for more Google ranking, I updated my permalink structure and set it to the following for posts:
http://swobodin.fedora-tn.org/archive/999
The feature is included within wordpress, but you can handle it manually using mod_rewrite.
Note that old URL structure (/?p=999) still works.

Finding out about Bittorrent

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

I’m novice in the P2P world (what, something weird?) and I began trying several networks/clients.
Thanks Kassus and Gloom keeper for the tips/suggestions, but I actually find Bittorrent the best one to fit to my needs, for the moment, I have no problem with Mininova server …

Google loves me

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

After months of patience, tests, hacks, retrieving informations, spying, asking, using and modifying technologies, … I finally could accomplish what I was running after: Being highly ranked in Google!
Looking at statistics, I followed some Google referers, and to my surprise, I found my blog ranked in first position for some keywords; I first took it […]

Googlism

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Googlism.com will find out what Google.com thinks of you, your friends or anything! You have just to enter the name, specify whether it’s a person, thing place, time, … and you get funny results.
In fact, Goolism searches in Google and gets the results that contain the verb “to be” to make a definition. Just […]

Google Bombing

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

Found a funny article in Wikipedia about Google bomb.
A Google bomb or Googlewash is a certain attempt to influence the ranking of a given page in results returned by the Google search engine, often with humorous or political intentions.
Here are some searches you can perform in Google in order to get a funny result:

miserable […]

Factland in your G-Talk

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

Interesting feature in G-Talk, which consists of federating Jabber with G-Talk. Thus, in your Gmail’s AJAX interface, you can add Jabber contacts and chat with them!
Well, a funny contact is called Factland, it’s a robot that consists of a knowledge base, just add the contact factland@jabber.org
Next, type
fact
and it will render a random fact, for […]

Google regular expressions?

Monday, June 12th, 2006

Does Google support pattern matching?
Apparantly it does, except that there’s no really regular expressions! I tried to search using Perl, awk and Grep regular expressions, but it does not sem to accept them. Of course, some basic ones work, like the logical OR, for example
(A|B|C)
But I could not make it work for something like
.*somepackage.*[[:digit:]]+.*i(6|3)86\.rpm

Any […]

MSN users: You are not welcome!!

Monday, June 5th, 2006

Yes, the title is segregative and agressive, I keep my position though.
Analyzing May’s statistics, I realized that  3426 visitors came using search engines, of which 3260 from Google and 120 from MSN. Those MSN users who come to my site and generally use Internet Explorer really make me shit, and, unlike Google visitors, rarely look […]

I want to laugh

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Unlike what might mean the title, I am not looking for a jester, I often smile and laugh whenever it’s possible after all.
I was looking for funny pictures to share them with friends, but I got the Internet White Screen of Death again! Means that the sites are blocked here…
There’s something I still can’t […]
