Happy new Year

Friday, December 30th, 2005

I was reading a report about 2005’s events. And, like the previous years, no event was happy.
2005 started with a terrible catastrophe, the worst of all the times! Earthquakes in Iran and Pakistan, Katrina, Rita and Stan make the Hurricane Troika for a great disaster in the United States…
But, what did human do?
Iraq […]

The Hours

Friday, December 30th, 2005

Meryl Streep is one of the best actresses I have ever watched. I have already seen a movie of her with Robert de Niro (Falling in Love, 1984), Al Pacino (Angels in America, 2003) and Denzel Washington (The Manchurian Candidate, 2004); so I thought how a movie with Nicole Kidmann can be?
I was […]

In success you deserve it, and in defeat you need it.

La Marseillaise des Libres Penseurs

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

Soldats de la Libre pensée,
Debout à son salut veillons :
Contre nous l’Église insensée
Lève encore ses noirs bataillons ! (Bis)
Entendez-vous leurs voix étranges ?
Leurs anathèmes furieux ?
Et leurs défis audacieux,
À nos généreuses phalanges ?

Allons, libres penseurs, à l’œuvre ! Travaillons !
Luttons ! (Bis) Contre l’infâme […]

La Leyenda del Tiempo

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

Requiem for a Dream

Monday, December 26th, 2005

If you are looking for an extremly pathetic drama, I would suggest Requiem for a Dream.

Country names

Saturday, December 24th, 2005

One of topics I’m interested the most is looking for the word origin, the scientific word is “etymology”. It’s amazing how starting to look for a word, then wondering, searching in a dictionary, finding out that it comes from a foreign language, trying to learn some words from that language in order to understand […]

Singin’ Freedom

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Ah, my friends, from the prison, they ask unto me,
“How good, how good does it feel to be free?”
And I answer them most mysteriously:
“Are birds free from the chains of the sky-way?”
Bob Dylan Ballad in Plain D

Assassination: Yet another Drug-Crime

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Ever wondered where did the word “assassin” come from?
A persian missionary who converted a community in the late XIth century in the heart of the Elburz Mountains of northern Iran called Hassan-i-Sabbah had a secret sect that used to commit “religious” crimes under the influence of the hashish; this sect was called al-hashashin (الحشاشين) […]

¡Al Alba!

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Beyond Good and Evil

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Yesterday I read Friedrich Nietzsche’s Beyond Good and Evil that I retrieved from the Gutenberg Project.
I picked some interesting paragraphs from the chapter APOPHTHEGMS AND INTERLUDES.

68. “I did that,” says my memory. “I could not have done that,” says my pride, and remains inexorable. Eventually–the memory yields.

72. It is not the strength, but […]
