My Geek Life
I use GNU/Linux, both Fedora Core and Debian based distros (actually
Ubuntu). Not only because the system is stable, secure and reliable,
but also because of the idea on which it's based. A new concept of the
digital Freedom that may change the world. No restrictions and no
copyright limit; everything is allowed and you are encouraged to do it.
I manage a Fedora Core portal, in which I post some tips and scripts
for Fedora Core and GNU/Linux, and this is a less thing to
thank
the developer and communities that made the system and the softwares
easy for everyone.
As I respect freedom and privacy, I always prefer to encrypt messages
rather than plain text.
My public key (1024D/8A784A88 EFF4 9FD5 DBC2 991B B5DD 59C8 24B9 51D8 8A78 4A88) may be download
from the MIT key
server or simply
locally.
My Linux ID is

Where am I?
I
am from and I live in Tunisia, a small country in the Mediterranean
Sea,
rich of History and Culture, where the 3000-year old monuments remember
the immortal personalities, the prospering civilizations, the standing
glory of a great land.
My thoughts
Freedom is my highest value.
LIBERTAS QVÆ TAMEM
say the
Brazilians. I am for peace, against all kind of violence and
fanaticism, against those who want that everybody thinks and acts as
they do. Dialog is the way of solving the problems, tolerence
is what people must have to understand each other and peace is the first and the
ultimate solution for Humanity. Yet untouchable, the Truth;
although it's often bitter, nothing can be realized without
objectivity, self criticism and being subject to the reality instead of
cheating on oneself.
Life is Chess
Chess for me is not to win or to lose. Chess is a mystery, a
philosophy, an art. I like the way to give a spirit to the pieces, to
organize them and to set their movements in a harmony, such a dance.
Every pawn, every light and heavy piece has its importance, no piece
can make victory without the support of the others, some have to be
sacrificed to gain space, position, time, or the match.
My favorite piece is the pawn, the soul of the chess; and the one who
does not respect the pawn does not deserve playing chess.
When I play with white, I almost always push 1.e4 and try to lead the
opening to a Spanish game, and poor is the one who, in the Berlin's
variation, thinks that the central pawns simply cannot be defended.
With Black, I answer to 1.d4 by 1...Nf6 followed by 2...c5 expecting
the Volga or similar gambit, giving to the black Bishop the long
diagonal and opening the Queen side putting the heavy arsenal. It
happens that I play 1...d5 looking for the complex Botvinnik variation
of Semi-Slavic Queen gambit. Face to 1.e4, I mostly play a French
defense (trying to force the opponent to push the central pawn to e5
and then to cause weakness), but also I sometimes play a Sicilian
defense according to Sveshnikov, when I feel aggressive; however, in a
calm mood, I prefer the Chigorin's Spanish. Those technical terms can
only be understood by a chess player. :-)
I do no longer play in tournaments, and, in the Net, I avoid playing
rated match; what I look for, is the fun, the inspiration, the
meditation and the "human side". More than the matches, I won new
friends.
Languages I deal with
I understand several languages: Arabic, English, French, Portuguese,
Russian, Spanish; I am learning Latin using
collatinus
and reading courses from
wikibooks.
When people sometimes ask that stupid question why do I learn those
languages, I just say "why not" ...
My favorite quote
No tengo tierra
ni casa
No tengo nombre ni edad
Soy como el viento que pasa
¡Un viento de libertad!
Life is movies too...
The seventh art is my passion! I'm very selective when it's about
movies, I prefer the ones where the story is original, acting is great
and violence is reduced. I am generally less disappointed when the name
of Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Robert de Niro,
Nicole Kidmann, Al Pacino, Meg Ryan, ... appears on movie credit. For
me, the best movie of all the times is incontestably
The
Godfather.
About my logo
Well, nothing special, I drew a Chess rook with
inkscape
but was too ... fade. A friend suggested to burn the castle and then to
mix shining colors of the fire with the existing blue/gray. Obviously,
it was not a bad idea.
