Bureaucracy is derived from the word bureau, used from the early 18th century in Western Europe not just to refer to a writing desk, but to an office, i.e. a workplace, where officials worked. The original French meaning of the word bureau was the baize used to cover desks. The term bureaucracy came into […]

Accoona, a non convincing search engine

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

I have seen an accoona ad on Euronews, with the slogan “Reinventing Internet search”.
I have submitted my blog there 2 weeks ago, the search engine has been crawling and spidering the whole blog, increasing the bandwidth usage, but my blog still does not appear on the search page!
I still prefer Google, although nobody knows […]

Escuchando: Mario Lanza — Granada

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Granada, tierra soñada por mí,
Mi cantar se vuelve gitano
Cuando es para ti.
Mi cantar, hecho de fantasía,
Mi cantar, flor de melancolía,
Que yo te vengo a dar.

Granada, tierra ensangretada
En tardes de toros, (Perdón Lobs)
Mujer que conserva el embrujo
De los ojos moros.
De sueño, rebelde, gitana
Cubierta de flores,
Y beso tu boca de grana,
Jugosa manzana
Que me habla de amores.

Granada, […]

Arabic numbers in HTML

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

May be the W3C hasn’t paid attention to this bug which is considered as a feature.
When you write in Arabic letters and you include numbers, the numbers turn into Hindi, instead of Arabic ones! I do never use Hindi numbers, that’s why I’m obliged everytime I write in Arabic, to use Gimp in order […]

Soccer: They lost, I am happy

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

I hate soccer, and I’m not interested in it at all; but I was very glad yesterday after the defeat of the Tunisian club team, for no car accident was reported in my street last night, as the crazy fans were sad and without mood to express their “happiness”.
